Featured Game Week 5 - Green Bay Packers At
Atlanta Falcons
This is a rematch of last
season's NFC Championship. The Packers at 4-0 look destined to
go back there again this season but the Falcons have had more
difficulties this season. They are currently third in their
division with a 2-2 record. So there is no question that the
Falcons need this game more than the Packers, but need doesn't
always translate into results in the NFL. This should be a fun
game to watch, see how PossessionPoints play out during this
game. |

The Falcons took the opening kick-off and did exactly what you
are supposed to do with it. The had an 80 yard time consuming
drive worth 7 points on the scoreboard and 47 PossessionPoints.
Next the Packers see the ball but the Falcons kept Rodgers off
the field for over 6 minutes. |

The Packers fumbled on their first drive and the Falcons
repeated what they did on their first drive on their second
drive. The took another 6 minutes off the clock and put up 7
points. Now there are just 12 minutes left in the half and the
Packers have only had the ball once. If there is a way to beat
the Packers this is it. That is why the Falcons have an almost
green 95 PossessionPoints right now. |

The Packers put together a 7 minute drive but they bogged down
in the red zone and had to settle for a field goal. Long drive
with points is good, a TD would have been better. A lot of time
is coming off the clock with each drive. Now it is up to the
Packers defense to make something happen. |

The Packers forced the Falcons to punt and drove to the red zone
again, but a holding penalty and a dropped pass forced them to
once again settle for a field goal. The first half goes to the
Falcons but the Packers get the kickoff to start the second
half. Should be an interesting second half. |

The Packers get yet another field goal, but this one was a 56
yard field goal so that's pretty good. Chances were they were
going to come away with 0 points. |

Listening to Chris Collinsworth on the Sunday night broadcast is
very worthwhile. Much earlier in the half he said that the
Falcons weren't respecting the deep pass capability on early
downs and that the Packers needed to take a shot. The Packers
did on this drive and a pass to the deep middle resulted in a
quick TD. Not worth many PossessionPoints but it puts them in
the lead. |

Rodgers is on a roll, the Packers moved efficiently and scored
another TD on a 2 minute 21 second drive. They are in the
"yellow" in PossessionPoints, but so are the Falcons. |
